Ceramics

Message in a Bottle I

This piece was a part of a ceramics solo exhibition, entitled Washed Up, last year at the Crystalbrook Bailey Hotel in Cairns. While the primary medium was ceramics, I also incorporated some textiles to highlight the environmental crisis engulfing the world’s oceans. The wrapping of ceramics, as well as flotsam and jetsam in the form of manmade objects, driftwood, coral, and shells served as a reference to ghost nets and the impact of human interactions with the ocean.

Message in a Bottle I is a handbuilt pot using the coiling method, fired and glazed then wrapped with cotton twine and shell fragments. It is available for sale at the Helen Wiltshire Gallery, Mission Beach Qld Australia
